Sakari Nieminen
Primary Research Physician
Throughout my career, I have focused on conducting high-quality clinical research, with a particular emphasis on metabolic disorders, chronic disease prevention, and the evaluation of therapeutic interventions. With over 20 years of experience managing clinical studies, I have developed a deep understanding of trial design, execution, and data analysis, ensuring that studies are both scientifically rigorous and patient-centered.
My background in academic research has provided a strong foundation in evidence-based medicine and the methodologies required for successful clinical trials. During my time in academia, I specialized in metabolic diseases, developing study protocols, managing complex datasets, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This scientific precision continues to guide my work in industry-focused research, where advancing medical knowledge through innovative trial designs is a priority.
Having spent the last two decades working exclusively with research participants, I have overseen all aspects of their involvement in clinical trials, from recruitment and retention to ensuring adherence to protocols. This hands-on experience has been critical to the success of numerous studies, contributing to important findings in drug efficacy and safety.
In addition to my experience in participant management, I have collaborated extensively with cross-functional teams, including statisticians, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders, to ensure the smooth progression of trials. My expertise spans randomized controlled trials (RCTs), observational studies, and post-marketing surveillance studies, always with a focus on maintaining high data integrity and meeting regulatory requirements.
My scientific contributions to peer-reviewed journals underscore my ability to analyze and interpret clinical data, translating complex findings into meaningful insights. A strong focus on data quality and compliance with regulatory frameworks has been integral in advancing drug development and ensuring the success of clinical trials.
Laura Jääskeläinen
Nurse / Study Coordinator
I am a licensed registered nurse with a degree from Savonia University of Applied Sciences, earned in 2018. My career began with a background as a practical nurse, where I gained over 20 years of hands-on, diverse experience in the healthcare industry. This extensive foundation has equipped me with a strong clinical skill set and a deep understanding of patient care, which I now apply in the field of clinical research.
Since early 2018, I have worked as a clinical research nurse, where I’ve also trained in research coordination. My involvement spans approximately 20 studies, including those that are currently underway. These projects range from cardiovascular disease research to studies focused on cholesterol, type 1 and 2 diabetes, kidney diseases, giant cell arteritis, and psoriatic arthritis. In addition to pharmaceutical trials, I’ve contributed to research on food products and medical devices, broadening my expertise across various fields of study.
In my role, I coordinate study visits, conduct laboratory tests (such as blood and urine sampling, along with ECGs), and oversee the monitoring of vital functions like blood pressure and heart rate. I also manage investigational products, ensuring proper distribution, providing clear guidance for use, and maintaining oversight throughout the study.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this work is the diversity it brings. It allows me to continually learn and adapt, staying at the forefront of evidence-based medicine. Being part of research that advances both treatment options and preventive strategies is incredibly fulfilling. The opportunity to engage with patients in a thoughtful, unhurried manner also allows for more individualized care, where their unique life circumstances and strengths are fully considered.
Outside of work, I am passionate about nature, often enjoying the peaceful surroundings of Puijo’s forests and the Kallavesi shoreline. Music is another important part of my life, and I have been a member of a local entertainment choir for 15 years. It’s fascinating that both of these pursuits—nature and music—have been scientifically shown to benefit physical health and mental well-being, much like the work I am privileged to support in the research field
